Bumps and Cuts

Baba took a tumble today, and oh my god didn’t I feel bad. I wasn’t on my own, I was with Mr L, but I still felt that I was to blame, but maybe I should have blamed Mr L. Well I did at first!

Baba has this thing about spinning round and round and round, like most children do and we keep telling him to stop as he is going to hurt himself, but what 16 month old listens hey!

So tonight was a normal night, we were getting ready to go to the MIL ‘s, Mr L had a music channel on, and Baba was dancing, going round and round and round. I looked up and I know it is a cliché but it is true, in slow motion I saw Baba fall and his head hit the TV cabinet. I rushed to him as quickly as possible and scooped him up in my arms, and he had that face where he was crying but no noise was coming out, our child is a breath holder and always has been. So a massive blow in the face from Mummy and the screams began. Mr L meanwhile is sitting on the sofa looking at both of us.

“He’s cracked his head open” I shout at Mr L.

He runs off to the kitchen to get a cold compress.

“There’s nothing to get wet” Mr L shouts at me.

“Kitchen roll under the sink” shouting back, while holding Baba and cradling him in my arms looking at his slash on his head thinking oh god we need to go back to the hospital he needs a stitch!

Mr L comes running into the lounge with a new dishcloth! WTF! Wet! We put this on Baba’s head he is wailing, not impressed one bit.

“I think we need to go to hospital, he needs a stitch”

Mr L looks at me, “No he is fine!”

“Well that’s it no more music channels, you always put them on and they make him want to dance. And then he does this!”

Mr L rolls his eyes, “you can not wrap him in cotton wool”

We calm him down and go and see Nanny.

Baba is fine, his slash on his head is a little bit thicker than a paper cut, and he has a slight bump!

I think I may be a bit neurotic….

When my daughter was 2 yrs old she fell down the stairs in our house. She cracked her head open on the corner. I was freaking out and woke up my now ex-husband. We rushed her to the hospital were she got a couple of stitches. It was nothing but I freaked out. All kids will fall down and hurt themself. Glad he is fine and didn’t need a stitch.

I know I felt so bad, I think I would have been rushing him to hospital if Mr L wasn’t here he is a lot more rational in those situations! Thank god as think the hospital would have laughed at me. He is fine now just has a little scratch on him!
