I was the One

I was always the one on my own,

Always the one trying to find someone to go out with

Always the one that spent Christmas with just the family

Always the one that went home on my own!

My friends had partners,

They had always had partners,

Had always been a part of a pair.

I was the one on my own.

I thought I would always be on my own!

My friends were starting to get married,

My friends were buying houses, having children

I was the one on my own!

I used to cry many tears.

I never thought that someone would want me

I was the one always on my own.

Then you came along.

At first you made me laugh, and then you made me feel good,

I was on my own, you were on your own.

My birthday we were no longer alone.

6 years on we are still together

A baby, a dog and a house behind us.

We are a proper family,

My friends have partners too

Some the same as years ago and some new

But I am no longer alone

I am with you

And you were worth the wait!
