The Simple Things

We had a party yesterday and I think that Baba has now become one with nature.

In the past he has always been a bit nervous about things outside. It has taken him nearly two years to walk on grass without shoes, that’s a lie to walk on grass with shoes was a problem at first. But he has overcome them both now! He has suddenly become a child that loves being outside.

He has taken a liking to bugs, and all animals in general really. So he just loves the outdoors, and it is nice. I know that I am a bit neurotic when it comes to sun and cream and hats, maybe I was the reason he hated outdoors so much. But I can’t help it as we both have very fair skin and a lot of red in our hair, so I am going to be cautious. But apart from that I do like to be outside. I like walking I find it very therapeutic it is the time I come up with my best ideas! It seems that Baba may be the same.

Mr L is not such a great outdoors lover. He likes to stay in and have the curtains drawn and the outside closed out, not my idea of fun, we spend lots of time arguing about curtains in our house! So I am glad that Baba is enjoying the outside!

Yesterday the party was at a park. Not one that we have ever been too before, and Baba loved it. He just loved to be free and to be able to run, and not have a care in the world. He was looking at trees, watching ants climb the trees. Running from grass, to pavement, to stone, to grass and he did not stop running. He had a great time.

It really made me think, that we all get so wrapped up with what we want, would like, and what we think we need, that we sometimes forget that the simpliest thing. The act of going to a park and running can cause the greatest fun. You don’t need any lavish toys, you don’t need to worry about getting dirty or getting in a mess as that is part of the fun! You lose that as an adult, you learn how you should behave. You no longer go running and screaming at the top of your voice at the same time, just because the wind feels good and makes your voice sound funny, (well unless you have had a few alcoholic drinks before) and we really need to embrace that with our children when it is so raw and effortless.

So I am making it one of my priorities, to go and enjoy the simple things with Baba. Let him run, get messy and run like he is never going to stop. That is what he supposed to do, he is a child and I want him to have a great time, just being!

Oh I love walking barefoot, drives my parents mad. I can run better with no shoes on as well! Very strange I know, but I do it all the time! All those years from walking home with high heels and just kicking them off! I think it’s really good for them as well keeps them active. xx
