Bedtime

Putting you to bed

You lay and smile

Listening to your story like you do every night

One leg in the air

One leg laying on the bed

One arm rubbing the headboard

The other under your head

You listen and hum and chat to yourself

Sometimes you stroke my arm as I read

And smile so sweetly.

Your chatter gets louder and louder,

And I have to remind you it’s bedtime

To be quiet it’s time to sleep

You just look back

Dummy half in and half out.

I finish the story

Kiss you goodnight and tell you I love you

“My mummy” Is the response

As always that I get back.

I walk down the stairs

Listening to you talking and singing to yourself

As you slowly drift into your sleep!
