Beagle Trouble

So I have three men in my life, I know you may think I am greedy but it is just the way I like it.

I have Mr L, obviously Baba and then T the dog our Beagle.

We got T when he was 10 weeks old and as you can see he is a bit of a gorgeous thing. Mr L and myself are both dog people, we grew up with them and made the decision about having a dog long before having a child. When we first saw T we loved him from that moment.

And how could you not…

T has not been the easiest of dogs, we knew that Beagles were hard to train from the start. But I think that we were both a bit naive to begin with, however we quickly learnt. He helped us along the way.

He is a very quirky dog, and is a unique being I am sure, here are a few of his ways:

  • He will eat anything in sight, does not matter what it, Mr L’s shoes, my knickers, Baba’s toys he does not care, if it is near where his mouth can get its his!
  • He will run, so far he has run away from me, out the door about six or seven times, away from MIL and he does not stop. He just keeps running. The best being when Mr L had an interview and T took off out of the front door heading to the main road, Mr L chasing after him. Mr L wasn’t happy after that! But he got the job it was ok!
  • He doesn’t bark, very rarely you get a woof but he howls more than anything.
  • He is scared off – you ready: clapping too loud, shouting, thunder, lightening, big bangs in general, fireworks, going in water. Not too much!
  • He walks with his head down, sniffing the whole way!
  • He curls up on the sofa, right next to your bottom, and snores all night long.
  • He doesn’t like going out, when it is raining, windy, snowing or just a little cold!

But that is T and that is what he is, he drives us all mad but we still love him.

Although at the moment we are having a slight problem with him, toilet training has disappeared. We have decided to stop asking to go to the toilet. T has always scratched the back door when he has needed a poo or a wee. Now nothing.

Instead it is much more fun, just not to ask and go where ever he feels like in the house. He isn’t fussy, anywhere will do. He doesn’t do this all day, but about once or twice a day he will just pee on the floor. Every morning even though he is let out at bedtime, and when Mr L gets up for work at 6am I will get up 7.30am onwards and there will be a poo on the floor greeting me, saying hello!

I don’t know why he is doing it, I have been searching the internet frantically tonight trying to find an answer. First I thought that he had a UTI, but I don’t think he has. He isn’t drinking anymore, and he is still eating fine.

He just seems to be lazy! But Mr L is not happy with it, and he is getting very grumpy. So we need to get it sorted.

But how can you be angry with this face for too long?

Aww how cute. We were thinking of getting a beagle as they look so adorable but having never owned a dog before we were worried about them being difficult to train etc.. I think we’ve now decided on a springer or a springer/lab cross… just have to save up for a few months first! We have 3 cats & they cost a fortune already! Good luck with your little T 🙂

They are difficult to train, once you have it they are good. But they are very sprightly and full off it. We have both always had dogs, so we knew what to expect but he has still been hard work at times. Good luck with your dog x
